Emilia is the overall main antagonist of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, serving as the unseen overarching antagonist of Season 1, the central antagonist of Season 2 and the main antagonist of Season 3.

She is a human scientist who previously worked with Lio and Song. She became the leader of the human resistance against Mutes.

While initially presenting herself as an ally to Kipo and her friends, her villainous nature is later revealed. After she was defeated, she was forever imprisoned in her old burrow by Fun Gus.

Appearance[]

Emilia has shoulder-length white-blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin and thin eyebrows. At the start of season 2, she is shown wearing a long dark-teal cape with a hood, and a black plague doctor-style raven mask. Underneath, she wears a cyan zip-up DNA burrow jumpsuit with dark trim.

As a Mega Mute she is a giant monstrous humanoid that has light blue skin with dark blue at the end of her legs and four arms which have webbing between the fingers as do the toes, a tail and two heads with four eyes each and both of the heads has a set of tusks. The left head retained her blue eyes and has small tusks while the right head has violet eyes has and has big tusks

Personality[]

She appears friendly at first, but her true nature is revealed later in the season. She is extremely manipulative, arrogant and ruthless. Emilia hates all Mutes and wants nothing more than to see their demise. Her madness only worsens over the course of the third season, resulting in drastic actions.

Emilia's animosity towards Mutes stems from her childhood and her father who constantly pushed her to achieve the goals of past burrow residents. She became determined to please her father despite his cold and strict emotional abuse, working hard to achieve leadership of her people. Her downfall would come when Liam befriended several Mutes, much to her disgust and disapproval. It was when Liam began to question what they'd been raised to believe and suggested making peace with Mutes instead that Emilia sealed her fate by murdering her own brother, whose enlightened views were a threat to her ultimate goal. She covered up her murder by claiming the Mutes had killed Liam, though she arrogantly confessed her sin to Song, whom had been mutated at the time and Emilia had been certain that Song would never reveal her darkest secret to anyone. As a result, Song correctly concluded that there was no line Emilia wouldn't cross to achieve her ultimate goal, whether it was through manipulation, deception, or even outright murder. She was even willing to become what she hated most; a Mute, and commit genocide, to ensure humans would always be superior to mutes.

History[]

Before Kipo was born[]

Alongside her brother Liam, Emilia was a resident of the DNA Burrow. She and Liam lived with their authoritative father who constantly and strictly pushed her and her brother Liam to succeed and work towards the endeavor of reclaiming the world from the Mutes. Emilia was soon able to achieve the title of leader of her burrow and promised her father that she would find the cure for Mutes. When she and brother ventured to the surface to acquire some Mute DNA for their experiments, Emilia became separated from her brother and encountered various hostile Mutes. When she reunited with her brother, she found him interacting with Brad and Amy. Liam began to have second thoughts about curing Mutes. Unwilling to allow him to spread those ideals among the DNA burrow residents, Emilia murdered her own brother and returned to her burrow claiming that Mutes killed him.

Alongside other scientists, Emilia worked long to find a "cure" to the Mute mutagen and turn all Mutes back into animals. She had tasked Lio and Song Oak with isolating the mutagen. Lio and Song were eventually successful when they turned a mandrill named Hugo (later known as 'Scarlemagne') into an intelligent Mute. However, the couple decided to keep it a secret when they realized the consequences if Emilia were to learn of their breakthrough.

Unfortunately, Emilia eventually found out and attempted to take matters into her own hands with Hugo. She then learned of Hugo's puppet pheromones when he splashed Zane, a burrow scientist, in self-defense. Emilia would then imprison Hugo and force him to run on a treadmill to harvest his pheromones. Emilia used Hugo's pheromones as leverage in order to force Lio and Song to further their research into developing a Mute "cure".

After Kipo was born, Emilia sought to confront the couple about Song's pregnancy, having found out that they infused Kipo's DNA with that of a Mute jaguar's. At Song's insistence, Lio was able to escape with Kipo while Song distracted Emilia. Emilia refused to allow Kipo to exist and during their confrontation, Song fell over a ledge and her Mute genes, which she had acquired from her pregnancy, activated in response to her fear. Song ended up transforming into a six-armed, giant mega monkey and caused the destruction of the burrow. Emilia was then able to take control of Song by using the supply pheromones she had harvested from Hugo.

During the show[]

Emilia spends 13 years trying to track down Kipo, the half Mute half human, and trying to find a solution so that she can turn all the Mutes back into their original selves to restore humanity on the surface.

Emilia has a group of human followers with her, including Zane and Greta, who help her in her goals. Emilia, by a stroke of luck, manages to find Kipo and convince her to come back to her group's headquarters (by pretending to be a friend, instead of an enemy). Emilia's plan is to use Kipo to defeat the Mutes and Scarlemagne, and then to eventually kill Kipo.

Kipo and her friends eventually find out that Emilia is not on their side, and they make moves to undermine her. They blow up a nectar bomb to trap Emilia's followers in a tunnel so that they cannot go to Scarlemagne's coronation to hurt the Mutes with their sonic transmitter (as animals hate the screeching sounds). Emilia doesn't get trapped in the tunnel and fights Dave, Benson, and Mandu. They manage to get away to go to Scarlemagne's coronation.

After Kipo helps the humans under Scarlemagne's control get away, they go to a tunnel to hide where Emilia is waiting. There, she convinces them to follow her and to help her revert all of the Mutes back. She gets their support. Kipo finds out and plans to stop her.

Info Missing....

During the final battle, after her plan to cure all the Mutes at the party failed, most of her human followers abandoned her to become friends with the Mutes. She flatly refused Kipo's offer to join the "Age of Wonderbeasts." She had come to terms that no one would take her side, however, instead of relenting, she decided to "wipe this world clean and start from scratch", injecting herself with a serum and transforming into a two headed Mega Mute, and determinedly attempted to kill everyone. Kipo fought her but Emilia quickly got the upper hand. However, Kipo's allies came riding on Mega Mutes to assist her and with their help Kipo nearly defeated her. Emilia got up and Kipo had to take a hit from Emilia to protect her friends and family. As Emilia is about to deal the final blow, Hugo sacrificed himself by ramming into her; that hit was the final hit, making Emilia lose control her Mega Mute form because she never had and an "Anchor" like Kipo.

Emilia then retreated to the ruins of her old burrow. Kipo's friends were tempted to just let her remain a mindless creature, but Kipo said, "She deserves to be punished, but not like this." Kipo gave her the cure that Wolf got from Greta. Once she's reverted to her normal self, Kipo once again offered Emilia to join her, but she tried backstab Kipo, failing because Mandu came and bit on Emilia's arm, causing her to fall into the burrow where she became a "forever friend" for Fun Gus. Kipo and her friends decide that would be a fitting punishment for her.

Powers and Abilities[]

Abilities[]

  • Biology - Emilia is a capable biologist, specifically as a geneticist, and was overseeing Lio and Song's experiments on Hugo in order to find a 'cure' that would return Mutes to their original animal state.
  • Combat Skills - Emilia is proficient in combat, capable of defeating Wolf with a metal pipe.

Former Powers[]

  • Mega Mute Form - In a desperate attempt to destroy Kipo's dream of humans and Mutes living in peace, she injected herself with a serum that turned her into a Hybrid. However, she had less control over her Mega Mute form because, unlike Kipo, she had no "Anchor" to bind her to her core. She eventually lost herself to the Mega and would have remained a mindless beast if Kipo and her friends had decided not cure her.

Trivia[]

  • Emilia shares many similarities with Overhaul from My Hero Academia:
    • Both believe that the world they currently live in is "cursed"/"sick" and want to "cure" it (for Emilia, she wants to reverse Mutes back to normal animals, and for Overhaul, he wants to get rid of quirks).
    • Both made their medicine in to the shape of ammo (darts and bullets, respectively) from the DNA of a young girl (for Emilia, it was Kipo's hair and for Overhaul, it was Eri's flesh).
    • Both are excellent scientists and leaders for their respective teams (the Human Resistance and the Shie Hassaikai).
    • They both toppled a family member who they felt was in their way (Emilia killed her brother and Overhaul put his adoptive father into a coma).
    • They both also transformed themselves into giant monsters (Emilia turned herself into a Mega Mute and Overhaul fused with Rikiya Katsukame).
  • Emilia's Mega Mute form also bears similarities to the character Malachite from Steven Universe. Both have a similar color scheme, multiple limbs and eyes, and an affinity for water.
  • Rad said on Twitter, that after the end of the show, she would have to confront her actions every day due to Fun Gus' shapeshifting into her brother[1].
  • Emilia's Mega Mute in her mind is confirmed to be her guilt.[2] Rad said that's why she came back to her burrow and cried.
    • There was almost a scene, where, inside Emilia's Mega, her brother is the one that pulls her under the water, as a metaphor for her guilt.[3]
  • Unlike Kipo and Song, her Mega Mute form is more humanoid than animal-like.
    • It is possible this could be because she immediately injected herself with Mute DNA whereas Kipo and Song had more time to have Mute DNA develop inside them.
  • In an early doodle drawn by Rad, Emilia's Mute form was going to have a "leg tongue". [4]
  • Emilia's Mega Mute form resembles an Asura, a monster from Indian mythology. Asuras are known for having multiple arms, many faces, and large fangs. Asura's are generally associated with rage and destruction.
  • The track Humans In Capes is used as Emilia's character music throughout the series.
